Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to adopt ?
The adoption fee varies depending on the age of the dog and its age and medical needs, usually between $200 and $300.
How do I adopt?
Fill out an adoption application and someone from RMG will contact you. A visit with the prospective dog will be arranged, and usually a home visit, unless an RMG staff person can recommend you. An application does not guarantee adoption of that dog.
How long does the whole process take?
We are all volunteers so we work as quickly as we can. We are always pressured for time due to the nature of rescue work (time can be life or death to a shelter dog). The process should not take longer than 2 weeks.
Are you allowed to adopt if you live in an apartment?
Of course. We do our best to match the right dog to the environment it needs!
Do I have to have a fenced in yard to adopt?
No. Many of our adopters don’t have yards and actually spend more time with their dogs leash walking - its the best way to bond with your dog! Please think hard about your own activity level to match how much time you have to spend with your dog and the dog's exercise needs.
What happens if the dog I want is already adopted?
We will work to help you find another in need - unfortunately the supply is endless
What do I do if my dog is not working out?
We hope that you will try and work with a trainer or your vet to see if there is a medical problem other solution. If you cannot solve the problem, please call us to return the dog to us. Please do not give the dog away or take it to a shelter. Adoption fees are not refundable because 100% of your fee goes to medical care, microchipping, and other needs for each dog. Half of your fee may be refunded within one month after your initial adoption of the dog.
How do I get a hold of someone from RMG?
The team member that contacts you about adoption will give you contact info. Please text or e-mail that team member first. Please bear in mind that none of our team receives a salary or any remuneration for their work. All are volunteers and do this work without being reimbursed for their expenses or their time. Please take that into consideration and call between 9 am and 6 pm if you must call. If your message is not returned within 24 hours, contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Do you do out of state adoptions?
We sure do - but it's case by case! Arrangements have to be made to do home checks, transport the dogs and get medical certification so a lot of pieces have to come together, but we do our best to match our wonderful dogs to wonderful people - even if we have to work overtime to make it happen!
How do I get help surrendering a dog to your group?
Our mission is to rescue the dogs of Jasper County, however, we will do whatever we can to save any dogs that need help. If you are able to foster, we can list the dog for you and use our network on your behalf.
